We’ve had some interesting weather this spring/early summer here at the beach. From unseasonably warm to rainy to cooler and windy. Hard to believe summer is in full swing! As I prep my closet for summer and start to transition winter and fall items out of my rotation , I came across a few things that I’ve declared are year round closet must haves. These are items that won’t take up too much space to keep them available to you all year. PLUS, you’ll be thanking yourself when you won’t have to spend time searching for these pieces.

1) Layering Pieces

Kimonos and cardigans in varying fabrics like knits or open weaves are extremely versatile. They can add some visual interest to an outfit or be used for warmth on a cooler day. They typically take up very little space so it won’t be cumbersome to carry if you need to ditch a layer.

2) Jeans

A pair or two that can easily be dressed up or down. Distressed jeans are great for warmer months and cropped jeans can easily be paired with sandals or boots.

3) Rain Boots & Jacket

Being practical with this one but really don’t pack these away. True story: I wore my husband’s rain boots to a garden wedding last summer. This was a first for me (I was not the only one wearing them), but it had been storming all day, if I would have had my own boots they would have looked cuter with my dress, just sayin’.

4) Lightweight Jacket

A cute denim jacket or bomber style jacket can take your outfit to a new level and they look great with your year round looks.

5) Shoes. I think it is important to have a handful of versatile shoes available to you every season.

  • Consider a practical pair of sneakers for working out or days where you’ll be doing extra walking.

  • A fashion sneaker or boat shoe can be paired with a variety of outfits from sundresses to jean outfits.

  • Cute flats. Something closed toed and practical that can be worn with dresses and pants.

  • Heels or wedges that can be dressed up. A peep toe is a great option for year round special events.

6) Accessories.

  • elry. Most of us have our “go to” jewelry and I recommend having it easily accessible and organized. This will help save time when you are getting ready. Consider a ring stand or cute dish to put your everyday pieces in.

  • Belts. Having a few on hand is a great idea. They can bring a new look to any outfit. I recommend having a black and brown on hand for sure. A wider belt and skinny belt in your favorite color or woven texture can be a nice outfit detail year round.

  • Purses. If you have a collection of purses keep a versatile tote, crossbody and clutch easily available for whatever your needs may be.

  • Hats. Having a wide brimmed hat or baseball hat is great for shading yourself from the sun. Not to mention they can be cute outfit additions for any season. Opt for a fabrics and textures that will lend themselves to multiple seasons like a woven or canvas fabric. Save the wool for cooler weather.

Regardless of your personal style likes, these are all great options to have on hand year round. The beauty is, these closet essentials can be tailored to your own distinct personal style.

Stay fabulous,

Jen
